Event description

Have you ever wondered about disability or mental health and the law?

Funded by the Department of Communities as part of the EMPOWER program, this accessible, "plain English" legal education seminar will explore a range of legal issues and protections.

The seminar will look as laws relevant to all types of disabilities (such as physical, intellectual, learning and sensory) along with mental illness, along with neurodiversity.

The session explores a range of state and federal laws relating to disability and mental health along with associated legislation such as health, equal opportunity and discrimination, privacy, housing and employment.

Presented by experienced community educators, the session content was overseen by experienced disability discrimination lawyer Dr Rita Kleinfeld-Fowell. Rita holds two Masters Research law degrees, along with her PhD on the definition of disability discrimination and currently works for MIDLAS community legal centre.

With one in four Australians experiencing disability this informative seminar is relevant to everyone, including people with disability and their families, employers, community organisations, government workers and the wider community.
