Understanding Trauma and Dealing with Family Violence Disclosures Workshop 2023

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Did you know that most people don't end up disclosing family violence and/or sexual harm to the police? This means that they disclose to friends, family or other services in our community. Women's Support Motueka has created three 2.5-hour workshops aimed at anyone who would benefit from knowing how to handle disclosures of family harm from adults (the workshops do cover disclosures from children and young people and provide a great starting point for dealing with disclosures from children. Alternative training on child disclosures is provided by other organisations).

Our workshops are trauma-focused, with detailed information about the different trauma responses and how to handle disclosures with care while keeping yourself and the person disclosing safe. You will learn about the many different types of harm and how to recognise signs of trauma. You will gain a deeper understanding of the barriers people face, such as sexism, racism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia and how we can combat them when receiving a disclosure. You will practice the skills to safely refer people for further support and how to find support for yourself as well. Open to anyone who would like to join. Great for anyone working in social services or any customer-facing role.

The $100 ticket covers 7.5 hours of education over three weeks of workshops, a detailed workbook, a certificate upon completion and delicious kai and coffee while you learn! (please state any specific dietary needs when registering, and we will try our best to accommodate you). You will leave with a complete workbook which will provide a personalized plan of action, many helpful resources, and a 'go to' page where you can quickly find information to help someone who has disclosed to you. Come along and learn how to make Motueka a safe place for people to disclose.
