DOMESTICIDAD by Monique Baqués | Opening Event

You’re invited to the opening of Domesticidad, a solo exhibition by Brisbane-based artist Monique Baqués at Creative Room Art Space.

Exploring the idea of home through painting, collage, drawing and sculptural work, Domesticidad looks at the intimate relationship between domestic space, the female body, identity and belonging.

Throughout the exhibition, houses recur in different forms: fragile, unstable, floating, falling or merging with the women who inhabit them. Everyday domestic materials, including aprons, tea towels, safety pins and kitchen wipes, become part of a visual language that moves between protection and restriction, care and sacrifice.

Having lived in six countries across four continents, Baqués draws on a personal history of movement and resettlement. Home in these works is not simply a physical place, but something continually created through memory, relationships, routines and objects.

Domesticidad invites us to consider where shelter becomes confinement, what we give in order to sustain a home, and how the places we build around ourselves shape who we become.
