Description

Explore colour and expressive brushwork through a loose floral painting.

Working from imagination, you’ll experiment with simplified floral forms, warm and cool colour contrasts and spontaneous brushwork. You’ll also look at the basics of composition and how to create balance while keeping your painting loose and expressive.

No previous painting experience is required. All materials are provided.

About the tutor

Libby Protsan is a Brisbane-based visual artist whose work explores the human spirit and the colour and energy of the natural world. A graduate of a six-year honours degree, she brings a strong technical foundation and personal perspective to her artistic practice.

Her work has been recognised by the Riot Art & Craft Colour Prize and the Ipswich Art Awards. An accredited member of Flying Arts Alliance Queensland, Libby also facilitates community art programs across Brisbane, Ipswich and Springfield.

Creative Room Art Space is a contemporary gallery and studio in West End, Brisbane, dedicated to connecting emerging artistic voices with curious audiences and collectors. We offer a welcoming setting to experience and engage with contemporary art.

Our curated exhibition program highlights early‑career and mid‑career artists with a distinctive visual language and a committed studio practice. Many of the artists we work with have participated in national and international exhibitions, residencies and awards, bringing a diverse range of stories and perspectives to the gallery. We focus on conceptually rich, visually engaging projects that respond to current cultural conversations while remaining accessible.

In addition to exhibitions, we host a select program of studio‑based workshops and short courses for adults. These events give participants a chance to explore materials, develop skills and gain insight into artists’ processes in an intimate, supportive environment. Workshops complement our exhibition program by opening up new ways for people to connect with the artwork and ideas presented in the space.
