Mark your calendars, drag and art lovers! This July, SCRAP is hosting two super-fun Pride events, including our second annual DRAG SHOW!! ALL AGES! 🌈 Scroll to read more!
Trash-to-Fashion: Drag Rags & Pride Attire is a two-weekend open studio held in SCRAP's education space from 12-5pm on BOTH Sunday, July 2nd AND Sunday, July 9th! Amateurs and veterans of the Portland drag world are invited to come together in this collaborative, creative space and make wearable art and accessories for Pride week, swap ideas, make professional connections, make friends, and hang out with a smorgasbord of SCRAP's materials at their disposal. (Also, bring along your own works-in-progress!) We've collected a bunch of great fabrics, lots of interesting embellishments, and our 6 studio sewing machines will be available for use. Come make full garments, decorative epaulets, gaudy shoulder pads, pronoun pins, or perhaps a sash that announces yourself to be "World's Most Famous Drag Performer." We won't fact check! Tickets are $15 each day, with additional donations encouraged.
Drag Me To SCRAP! A Creative Reuse Fashion & Drag Show Fundraiser is the grand finale follow-up to our open studio weekends. Join us at Director Park in collaboration with Gallery Go Go (@gallerygogogo on Instagram) and applaud Trash-to-Fashion participants as they walk in a fashion show, see a fantastic all-ages drag show hosted by Portland legendary drag queen Sue From Corporate (@sue_from_corporate on IG) (and featuring more than one of your favorite SCRAP employees 👀), win fun prizes through a raffle and silent art auction, and support queer art! 💄 Let's have a gay old time! Drag show tickets are $10 via presale (with booking fees) and $14 at the door (with raffle tickets sold at the door).
All funds raised will help to support SCRAP's mission to encourage sustainability and make creativity accessible for our entire community. If you would like to support in other ways leading up to the events, we encourage artists to get in touch with us ASAP (email katelyn.k@scrapcreativereuse.org) about donating art to our silent art auction, and we encourage local businesses to donate gift cards or certificates for the raffle! Lovely prospective raffle donors can email portlandeducation@scrapcreativereuse.org before Wednesday, July 19th. Tickets to the two events are sold separately on Humanitix. Tickets can be purchased in advance through Humanitix for a slight discount ($10 plus fees), a discount of more than $2 from the door price of $14! SCRAP prioritizes access to affordable art materials and expressions, so if the ticket price poses a hardship, please let us know at the door on the day of the event. If you would like to contribute to someone else's ticket in addition to your own, please select the Pay It Forward ticket type and know that your contribution helps spread access to creative reuse and creative community-making!
All event ticket sales are final and non-refundable. If you cannot make it to the event, please feel free to send a friend in your place. If you are unable to do that, we still cannot refund your ticket, but you could think of your payment as supporting our SCRAPpy little creative reuse non-profit! We appreciate your support and understanding!
