Make Eco-Dye
Saturday 11.00am-12.00pm
Join local artists and make your own eco-dyed clothing.
Bring you own cotton t-shirt or cloth, combine with selected local leaves to create beautifully naturally dyed creations.
Experiment with different materials.
Materials required - Please bring along
- a garment, t-shirt or sheet. Natural fibre only.
cotton. silk. linen. calico. (this is a good way to revive an old garment.) - a few leaves or rusty items
Different object produce different results. Some very colourful plants produce nothing at all.
Eucalyptus + She Oak are a good pick - creating brilliant purple results
Process.
The eco-dye process requires time. For the best results you will need to drop off your garment to soak in mordant.
Between 10-11am.
The workshop starts by placing the leaves or rusty object on your garment, and then wrap the material.
We then steam the cloth for some time.
Total time: Dependant on the weather, items should be ready by 2pm.
Or can be taken wet once steamed. Results and times vary.
Suitable for all ages. Family friendly. Small children need to be assisted.
