EJC’s fall field trips continue with another visit to the theatre! Join EJC downtown at Artists Repertory Theatre for a matinee performance of Marsha Blovotnik and the Marvelous Magical Chicken Soup, a “buoyant, crackling comedy about how to live in a dumpster fire” by Jewish writer Dan Kitrosser. Marsha Blovotnik is angry. So angry! The whole world is fakakte, but for this Leftie Jewish Lesbian, it’s her sister Janice who really burns her tuchus. Janice invites herself over for Shabbos dinner and then shows up three minutes early. Who does that?!? Just before her sister arrives, a mysterious ancestor gives Marsha a pot of magical chicken soup with the power to cure the world of its woes — if only Marsha can cool down enough to share a bowl of soup with her sister.

About the playwright
Dan Kitrosser
Dan Kitrosser is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and storyteller. He co-wrote the screenplay We the Animals which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2018, winning the NEXT Innovator Award, the Best Narrative at OutFest 2018 and is nominated for 5 Independent Spirit Awards and a GLAAD Award. His plays include Tar Baby (First Fringe Award, Edinburgh Fringe, and an Amnesty International Citation for Excellence), Dead Special Crabs (monologues published in Smith & Kraus Best Men’s and Women’s…) and The Mumblings (optioned for TV series by FOX). He is currently working on the screen adaptation of Anne Tyler’s novel Searching for Caleb and his play Third Person was just nominated for a Wilde Award for Best Script after its production at the Great Escape Theater in Marshall, Michigan. Dan is the 2018 Peter Shaffer Award Winner, a 2016 TimeWarner 150 Fellow, a 2014 Sundance Screenwriting Fellow, a 2014 Harold and Mimi Steinberg Playwriting Fellow, a 2015 TerraNOVA Collective Groundbreaker, a Maryland Filmmakers Fellow. Dan received the Fringe First Award for Playwriting at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a Special Citation from Amnesty International’s Freedom of Expression Awards. Dan is the Artistic Director of Writopia Lab’s Worldwide Plays Festival. He received his MFA from The New School for Drama in 2014. Dan is currently on faculty at The New School for Performing Arts, and has taught at Writopia Lab, The Ape, Couch Collective, Bag n’ Baggage and in 2013, he was awarded a Gold Model for Excellence for teaching Creative Writing from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

- How do we get there?
EJC is providing two transportation options for this field trip. You will select an option when you complete your ticket order.
Eastside: Meet at EJC, 2420 NE Sandy Blvd, at 1pm for a chartered bus to the theatre.
Westside: Meet at MJCC, 6651 SW Capitol Hwy, at 1pm for a chartered bus to the show.
Don't need a ride? That's okay! Meet us at Artists Repertory Theatre, 1515 SW Morrison St., at 1:45pm
- Where do we meet?
The play will take place at Artists Repertory Theatre at 1515 SW Morrison St. in downtown Portland. Attendees can choose to meet at the theatre at 1:45pm, OR at one of two locations - EJC or MJCC - for chartered transportation.
- What if I can't go on the 22nd?
The play runs October 27-November 22, 2026. If you are interested in attending the show but are unable to join us on the 22th, consider attending for EJC night on Thursday, Nov 12. Use discount code EJC15 for 15% off tickets.
