Exceptional Young Artists Share the Joy of Music

SOUNDS FROM AFAR

Join Chloe Corbett, an emerging artist drawn to the harp’s expressive voice, rare repertoire, and the art of musical storytelling, for the launch of the 2026 Emerging Artist Concert Series. Sounds from Afar is a program that highlights the diverse heritage of harp music. The program includes:

Carlos Salzedo, Chanson Dans La Nuit & Tango | David Watkins, Fire Dance and Nocturne Camille Saint-Saëns, Fantasie for solo harp | Henriette Renie, Au Bord du Ruisseau | Pearl Chertok, Ten Past Two (from Around the Clock Suite) | Mary Gustavson, A Moorish Garden

Captivated by the sound of the harp from an early age, she is completing a Bachelor of Performance (Harp) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying with Alice Giles AM and is a recipient of the Elise Herrman Scholarship (2024). She began harp lessons at age seven with Louise Johnson, former Principal Harpist of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. An active soloist and orchestral musician, Chloe regularly performs with Sydney-based ensembles and is a consistent prize-winner in eisteddfods. She has a strong interest in music arrangement and in uncovering works by lesser-known composers.

About the Emerging Artist Concert Series

Wollongong Art Gallery and Inspire Music Australia present the Emerging Concert Artists Series at Music and Tea at the Gallery on the first Thursday of the month.

The series connects our community with some of Australia's most inspiring young musicians (26 and under). The program actively seeks out local young musicians to perform at the concert's opening or as featured artists. The concerts serve as a stepping stone for young artists' performance journey.

This is a free event to ensure accessibility for all. Donations can be made and contribute directly to the artist's fees.

Sharing the Joy of Music in the Community

InspireMusicAust is a not-for-profit that nurtures emerging classical, jazz, and world musicians by creating performance opportunities in the community. InspireMusicAust is committed to increasing accessibility to classical, jazz and world music within the community. Our concerts are often scheduled at a time of day, making them available for those who find concerts at night difficult. We partner with venues to provide accessible programs to all within the community, regardless of their economic situation. To facilitate this, many of our concerts are entry by donation. However, we strongly encourage those who can donate to do so generously to help support our commitment to paying performers following the Musicians Union of Australia and awards.

Currently, our major program is the EMERGING CONCERT ARTISTS SERIES, which features outstanding young performers under 26. The musicians are given the freedom to curate, present, and perform a program in multiple venues, which helps create a performance progression path for emerging artists. In some concerts, the emerging artists work with established performers; in others, they pair up together. Other concerts we run include the annual MUSIC FOR MEDICINE concert, which features emerging artists in performance with a leading Australian artist at Wollongong Town Hal, with all profits going to a charity committed to the health and well-being of those in need. We also run CONCERTS ACROSS THE LAWN: A Musical Experience in Nature. As young artists progress, we offer to help them set up concerts involving a paid entry in different locations.
