EnQueer: Achtung! Queer and Present Danger Panel & Workshop
Event description
Achtung! Queer and Present Danger Panel & Workshop
Panel: An exploration into how queer writing and experiences are shaped by disasters
Sunday 15 June, 1:00 – 2:00pm
With war, pandemic, economic downturn and the rise of conservatism, all playing out under the looming existential threat of climate change, the world we once knew has fundamentally changed.
This panel will feature queer writers and academics who have addressed themes of crises and explore how queer writing responds at the precipice of disaster. Queer history shows us that our community is made more resilient in disaster, be it through protest, visibility, building family and celebrating hope and love. Given how much we have overcome, what can we learn from our past struggles to help us write our future?
Panellists TBC. The panel will be followed by a workshop.
Workshop: Writing with resilience in the face of disaster facilitated by Orlando Silver
Sunday 15 June, 2.30 – 5.00pm
What does it take for us as LGBTQIA+ people to write with truth and power in these uncertain times? What courage is needed to create work that makes us visible? And once we are visible, how do we stay there? This hands-on workshop will support you to get going on the page using practical techniques and skills. Expect to be pushed and expect to like it.
