Equal The Contest Documentary Screening Bendigo
Event description
Women's Health Loddon Mallee, The City of Greater Bendigo, Sports Focus and Thorne Harbour Country warmly welcome you to join us for a free community screening of the Equal the Contest documentary in Bendigo.
About the documentary:Â
When the rules exclude you, rewrite them.
When a 42-year-old filmmaker joins a new local women’s footy club in Regional Victoria a simple desire to play becomes a complex journey of inclusion and belonging. An unexpected turn means the team has to fight to play. Their campaign challenges age old sporting traditions and joins the wider movement for gender equity.
Who is this screening for?
This is a free community screening, and we warmly welcome the Bendigo and surrounding community to join us as well as players, parents, managers and decision makers at all clubs of all genders and all sports to attend, bring the whole team!Â
Creating safe and welcoming spaces for people from diverse backgrounds in community sport requires commitment to changing club culture. Watching Equal the Contest can help player, clubs and communities understand some of the barriers that prevent equal access in sport.  Following the screening there will be a short discussion on the themes the documentary raises for anyone who wants to stay, tying in some of the themes from the documentary and how to approach change for more inclusive sport.
