EQUILIBRIUM with Orchestra

EQUILIBRIUM are proud to join Cameron Smillie to see their music reimagined in an orchestral setting. 

In 2025, EQUILIBRIUM became the first instrumental band in Smokefree Rockquest’s nearly 40-year history to win the national competition. Featuring Corban Blackwell (Guitar), Alex Gibson (Keyboard & Saxophone), Wonie Park (Bass), and Finley Tressler (Drums), the band blends jazz-inspired harmony and solos with mainstream pop and rock melodies, built on a dynamic progressive metal foundation.

Their first single, Rumination, was released in June 2026 to critical acclaim. Hear it performed as part of an extended set, re-imagined with orchestral forces.

Cameron Smillie is a Christchurch-based percussionist, composer, arranger, and conductor currently studying at the University of Canterbury. With a passion for orchestral and contemporary music, he is excited to collaborate with EQUILIBRIUM, reimagining their music through orchestral arrangements and exploring the creative possibilities of combining progressive metal with the symphonic sound.

Arranged and conducted by Cameron Smillie, this debut fusion of jazz metal and orchestra brings EQUILIBRIUM's sound to the concert stage in a powerful new form.
