Ereshkigal in the Great Below
Event description
Journey to the underworld with Jane Meredith
Ereshkigal is the Sumerian Queen of the Underworld, sister of the much more famous Inanna. But when Inanna's story takes her to the Underworld, where stripped of all her powers, she must meet this other half of herself and surrender completely.
Recasting the story from Ereshkigal's perspective we realise that part of us, also, belongs to the Underworld, and has sovereignty there.
Can we go into that deepest place and find compassion for ourselves and the world?
Can we give birth, alone and in the dark, to our brightest parts?
And what is it to be witnessed in our suffering?
In this workshop we will presence ourselves within the Underworld, as the time of year cradles us in darkness.
Exploring themes of solitude, compassion, birthing ourselves and being witnessed we will work with myth, ritual, individual and group processes to understand and honour Ereshkigal and all goddesses of the dark.
Please note that this workshop is set within the Underworld.

Background
the Gaia Temple – Explore Goddess workshops
At the Gaia Temple, our mission is to help create a world in which people respect and honour the Goddess in her many forms and explore the intersection of spirituality, ecology and community activation. Our 'Explore Goddess' workshops are an opportunity for people to come together in group discussion facilitated by an authoritative special guest.
We explore new ideas about how the Goddess is present in our lives, the relevance of earth based spiritual perspective in solving modern issues and celebrate the Divine Feminine within, from a uniquely Australian perspective.
Each workshop covers an essential aspect of how we connect with and honour the Goddess, from Indigenous perspectives to honouring our Ancestors and motherline, celebrating the turn of the seasons and connecting with the spiritual energy of nature.
Come dive into women’s wisdom, story-telling and embodied learning! We will transport you to her different altars and immerse you in her divine energy here at the Temple.
