ETHICS TUNE UP #1: Ethics 101

Would you lie to protect a friend? Do you put your life on hold to care for your elderly parent?

Ethical dilemmas are some of the toughest problems we will face. Thankfully, over 2,000 years of philosophical enquiry has provided us with a range of powerful tools to help solve them.

This intimate, in person workshop provides an introduction to ethics and looks at four of the major ethical frameworks proposed by philosophers including consequentialism, deontology, virtue ethics and the ethics of care, and show you how to apply them in your life.

ETHICS TUNE UP #2: How to Live a Good Life

Every major decision we make is guided by our vision of a good life.

But there are so many voices telling us what that vision ought to be, whether it’s about success, wealth, status, family, happiness or something else entirely. How do we know which vision is the right one for us? How do we know we’re not making decisions according to someone else’s vision of a good life instead of our own?

This workshop will explore a wide range of visions of a good life, including those put forward by major philosophers throughout history, and give a practical guide to finding and realising your own vision of the life you want to live.

ETHICS TUNE UP #3: The Future of Morality

Melbourne – Wed 27 May (6-8pm AEST)

Do you ever feel like the moral ground is shifting beneath your feet?

In a world more connected – and more divided – than ever before, there’s no single moral story holding us together. Instead, we find ourselves navigating a fragmented landscape of competing values, faster change and growing disagreement.

How did we get here? Why does it feel so destabilising? And what might morality look like in 10, 50 or 100 years?

This interactive workshop explores the forces reshaping our moral world. Together, we’ll trace the major moral shifts of recent decades – from gender and minority rights to assisted dying, drug use and our treatment of animals – and consider where these trends might lead.

Ethics Tune Up is an innovative and engaging masterclass series from The Ethics Centre that will take your ethical skills to the next level. These workshops are an opportunity to extend your knowledge of ethics and learn how you can apply these principles in your life.

Facilitated by leading philosopher Dr Tim Dean, these two-hour workshops will be equally enjoyable and informative as they help you navigate today’s complex ethical terrain. There are no prerequisites to join!
