    Event description

This event is free for Artist Pass holders!

Join multidisciplinary performer and artist Fran Middleton for this embodied voice workshop.

Explore Fran’s experiential and playful vocal methodology, which infuses and unites her experience in devising, stand-up, music composition, visual art, and contemporary performance with holistic and somatic practices, along with the science of sound.

Beyond traditional voice training, a daily practice for performers, and just a communication tool, one of our most powerful healing instruments is our own human voice.

This 3-hour session, tailored to performers and multidisciplinary creatives, will focus on physical and energetic awareness. You will explore how we can consciously experience and utilise the body's vibrational field to create a palpable presence when performing, making, or creating—and how this can extend into or enhance daily life.

Driven by an ethos that all artform training practices should build on our wellbeing and self-care in the arts, the workshop will incorporate breathing and vocalising exercises, physical play, mental visualisation, yoga, humour, and joy. Fran will explore how our voices can regulate our nervous system, move us emotionally with ease, and entrain our cells to vibrate harmoniously.

    WHO IS THIS SESSION FOR:

If you're a performer, this workshop can be a great addition to your presence, connection, and energy awareness.

Similarly, for anyone engaging in arts practice, activism, wellbeing, or self-care through the arts, being aware of your energy enables you to consciously infuse your intentions and actions with higher frequencies, helping you make change in the world.

    No experience is required.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES:

    • Vibration and resonance (sound waves and frequencies in our bodies and everything around us)
    • Vocal confidence
    • Vocal expansion and connection (body, field, space, objects, others)
    • Electromagnetic fields (particle body, field body)
    • Pranayama (breathing practices to activate energy flow)
    • Chakras and nadis (awareness of energy centres and channels)
    • Bhava maya panya (learning/accessing innate wisdom through individual embodied experience)

    ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Fran Middleton is a producer, performer, and multidisciplinary artist who loves to explore and inspire presence.

Born in WA, around Boorloo and Walyalup (Perth and Fremantle), to a family with diverse roots, she feels more connected to the earth and all beings than to any particular human culture.

Fran has a background in devising and performing theatre and comedy shows, composing music, and teaching voice, music, and improv. She has developed a deep interest in exploring the crossover between spirituality and performance, drawing on her ongoing yoga, meditation, and sound healing practices.

She holds a BA in Contemporary Performance from WAAPA/ECU and has completed courses through Rainbow Sounds, Sounds True, and The Four Winds Society. Fran continues to tune into the teachings reflected to us in everything, allowing her embodied experience to be her teacher along the way.

By trusting her path as it unfolds, and with gratitude for this life, Fran remains committed to practicing openness, mindfulness, and compassion. She is inspired to contribute in some way to the happiness and freedom of all beings.
