Exclusive Musical Soiree at North Adelaide Baroque Hall, Tynte Street
Event description
Exclusive private Musical Soiree event with Celia Craig, Thomas Marlin and Michael Ierace, in the distinguished new North Adelaide Baroque Hall - prior to its official public opening.
A specially arranged early opportunity to appreciate the glittering bespoke interior and superior acoustics of this historic building with its handbuilt pianos: a very special and atmospheric evening.
"How often have I actually discovered in myself that enthusiasm raises the artist above himself, how in an ordinary mood one would not have been able to accomplish many of the things for which enthusiasm lends one everything, energy, fire...
My imagination can picture no fairer happiness than to continue living for art..." Clara Schumann
Celia, Thomas and Michael ("Tarrawatta") present a refined and atmospheric program of 19th century Romantic music- beginning with solo cello for Beethoven's Sonata in A, a masterpiece written just a few years after the famous Heligenstadt Testament explored his tragic loss of hearing.
Three Romances by Clara Schumann, her last work, written in response to a visit from the Schumann's friend Brahms, are embraced by two unpublished and attractive arrangements of Mendelssohn and Schubert by the significant Adelaide composer Miriam Hyde.
The concert concludes with a dramatic work by Glinka: his 'Trio Pathetique'. Think Tchaikovsky, because Glinka is at a similar time and place, considered the founder of Russian nationalism in music, developing a distinct Russian style of classical music from his home in St Petersburg. This also links to the story of the philanthropic founder of this stunning new Concert Hall. The counterplay of lyrical melodic phrases at the heart of Glinka's emotional work will delight and soothe, before a dramatic close.
A refined and exclusive evening for lovers of fine music and architecture.
