Event description

Join us at FORM Gallery on Thursday, 7 August 2025, to celebrate the opening of The Spirit of Kepa Kurl Esperance, the sixth show in FORM's Southern Exposure exhibition series.

The coastal town of Esperance/Kepa Kurl on Wudjari Country is the focus in this new exhibition, showcasing the people, landscapes and talent of the Western Australia's southern regions. Kepa Kurl (pronounced 'Kep-pa Kurl') is the Wudjari  name for Esperance meaning 'where the  waters lie like boomerangs' referring to the shape of the two bays that sit beside the town.

For the past year, FORM has been working with the community on a prospective Esperance Sculpture Trail project. The Spirit of Kepa Kurl Esperance shares pieces inspired by the character and spirit of the town and its beautiful surroundings. Multidisciplinary artist Stuart McMillan, who relocated from Margaret River/Wardandi Country for a residency, presents work alongside pieces created by well-known local artists, which include metal, glass and timber sculpture, paintings, photography, film and stop motion.

This is an opportunity to meet artists who will travel from Wudjari Country to Whadjuk Country in Perth for the opening, and take part in an Artist Talk & Panel at FORM Gallery the following evening on Friday, 8 August 2025.
