Using Explicit Teaching to Build Number Sense — online teacher workshop
Event description
This online workshop is for primary and secondary teachers of numeracy and mathematics. For the in-person workshop version of the same, held in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, please go here.
Together we'll explore important ideas in number through hands-on activities and collaborative learning discussions.
Leave with practical and versatile activities that can be adapted to any year level, make space for student ownership, and can be adjusted and repeated to foster student number sense over time.
Topics: Counting & Arithmetic, Trusting the Count, Place Value, Multiplicative Thinking, Worded Problems
What to expect:
- Hands-on Activities: Experience first-hand how each activity differentiates to all abilities, is inclusive and celebrates diversity while also having a rigorous mathematical focus on critical knowledge and skills in number
- Pedagogical Focus: Understand the place of Explicit Teaching alongside four cornerstones of mathematics instruction to support mathematical inclusion, rigour, confidence and success.
- Supporting Resources & Advice: Benefit from supporting resources to use immediately and pedagogical advice from over 15 years of research, experimentation and pedagogical refinement.
- Curriculum-Aligned Content: References made to the Australian Maths Curriculum (v9), Victorian Maths Curriculum (2.0) and Numeracy Progressions (3.0).
- AITSL-Aligned Professional Learning: Addressing standards 1.2, 1.5, 2.1, 2.5, 3.3, 3.4, 3.7, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 6.2, 6.4, 7.4. Professional learning certificates can be issued on request.
