Family Farm Tour
Event description
Bring the kids along to discover the joy and abundance of the Green Connect farm and experience first-hand where their food comes from.
These 60-minute tours are fun and interactive for the whole family! We’ll get hands-on as we explore our 11-acre permaculture farm, including market gardens where we grow the majority of our produce and food forest which is slowly producing fruit. We’ll also search for our free-range sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens to offer a tasty snack.
Eight years ago, our vision was to turn a steep block of unused land in Warrawong, just south of Wollongong, into a thriving farm. Today the farm produces fruit, vegetables, herbs, eggs, honey, and free-range meat using organic principles. As well as growing fair food, the farm creates jobs for young people and former refugees. Last year, Green Connect grew and distributed 35,250kg of chemical free food and employed 144 former refugees and young people.
We’d love you to come and see what we’ve done with the place!
Please note that Family Farm tours are designed for children and their parents/carers. Those who are interested in learning about permaculture farming in more detail are invited to book into an Adult farm tour or explore our range of Workshops. Private farm tours are also available for community groups and groups of family and friends.
Before you book, please consider the following:
- The site is a working farm and visitors must participate in a safety briefing before entering.
- The terrain at the farm is particularly steep and slippery in parts. Though we do take it slowly, the tour involves a moderately strenuous walk and is not suitable for prams or wheelchairs.
- Plants love rain and so do we! We don't cancel tours in wet weather unless there is a dangerous storm. Rain (and mud!) is all part of the fun.
- Allergen advice: Our farm is home to domestic animals as well as bees, wasps and macadamia trees. Please pack an Epipen if allergic and keep it with you at all times.
All tour participants must:
- Wear enclosed shoes or boots (sorry no thongs or sandals allowed) and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Long pants are recommended.
- Bring a hat and sunscreen or rain gear, depending on the weather forecast.
Tickets:
- A ticket must be purchased for each person who wishes to enter the farm.
- Tickets for children 2 and under are free, but must be reserved.
- Each adult may supervise a maximum of 4 children.
If you have any questions about this workshop, please don't hesitate to contact us at activities@green-connect.com.au or 4243 1537.
