Event description

Plant material around your house can pose a significant risk in a bushfire. But sometimes gardens can also reduce fire risk by creating windbreaks and ember breaks.
So how can we plan and manage our gardens to reduce risk and maximise safety, while also maintaining an essential green space in our lives?

Join author and passionate gardener Danielle Clode as she shares practical, down-to-earth tips for creating fire-wise gardens that keep us safe while staying green and beautiful.
Drawing on her book A Future in Flames which explores the history of how Australians live with fire and how we can do so safely in an increasingly unpredictable climate — Danielle brings both expertise and lived experience from decades in fire-prone bushland.

Come along and discover how thoughtful gardening can make your home and community more resilient in a changing climate.

A selection of Danielle's books will be available for purchase on the day.

Date: Saturday 1st November
Time: 12.15pm - 1.30pm
Location: Hills Environment Centre, 4 Crescent Drive Norton Summit
Cost: Sliding scale fees available, ranging from $5 - 15 per person.

Sliding scale pricing is a flexible payment system where the cost of a ticket varies based on a person’s income or ability to pay, making it more accessible to a wider range of people. It allows participants to choose a price within a set range that works for them.
