Intro to Fire Defensible Garden Design with Erik Blank
Event description
Do you live in a high fire severity zone? Are you interested in learning how to protect your home from wildfire and the embers that threaten it? Whether you are starting from scratch or making adjustments to an existing garden, this introductory class will increase your understanding of the techniques used to create a Firewise garden. We'll use real world examples from our own site at TPF, look at native plant recommendations, and time permitting...even try our hand at drawing a baseline plan of your own. This is an all-encompassing overview that will help you understand how to assess, map, and design your home while considering the evolving guidelines pertaining to fire safety on your property. Resources and all materials will be provided.
A small portion of this class will be held outdoors. We ask guests to wear closed-toe shoes. Water bottles and sun protection are strongly encouraged.
Erik Blank is a long-time California native plant enthusiast with professional experience in restoration, installation and maintenance. He joined the TPF staff in June of 2020 working in Horticulture and Education.
