    Event description

Experience the possibilities of art + science after dark at Science Gallery Melbourne.

Asia TOPA and Science Gallery Melbourne have teamed up to deliver a mind-expanding celebration of dream worlds and futuristic visions. Explore SCI-FI: Mythologies Transformed  by night with futuristic art, food and surprising encounters.

Witness a visually arresting performance by Raina Peterson and Marco Cher-Gibard offering a revision of Hindu narratives through a queer lens. Be among the first to experience the mysterious and thrilling world of Guardian Maia – a new adventure action game by Maru Nihoniho drawing on the mythology of the Māori culture in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Go horizontal and explore gravity and bubbles with Sleepy? by artist Jincheng Deng. Enjoy a unique blend of myth and speculative fiction in the video works by SCI-FI exhibition artists Filipino-Australian art collective Club Ate showing in our pop-up cinema. And bring the house down by whacking and voguing with House of Sassy Savage & Burn City Waack.

Featuring waacking and voguing by House of Sassy Savage and Burn City Waack, plus a live set from DJ Smallfry, this is a party you won’t want to miss.

Science Gallery Melbourne’s Friday Night Socials are free parties where you can explore the latest exhibition against a backdrop of immersive performance acts and live DJ sets. Food and drinks are available for purchase.

The SCI-FI: Mythologies Transformed  exhibition uncovers new perspectives on science fiction by highlighting connections between the genre and Asian philosophy and mythology.

After a five-year hiatus, Asia TOPA returns to Melbourne in early 2025, with a lineup of futuristic performance art, live music, video art screenings and participatory installations.
