The breath has incredible healing power. It can help release stress, tension, repressed emotions, and trauma, bring mental clarity, and help open the mind to an altered state of consciousness.

Breathwork is a transformative practice and a profound self-healing method that harnesses the potential of conscious, connected breathing. By engaging in this intentional process, individuals can access expanded states of consciousness, unearthing repressed emotions and dispelling stagnant energy from their mind, body, and spirit. Through the deliberate and secure elevation of oxygen levels, we stimulate various brain regions, forging new neural pathways that lead to deeper insights and heightened clarity. This journey allows us to confront the sacred origins of unresolved emotional imprints.

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing method using a gentle hands-on touch or distance healing to treat the mind, body, emotions and spirit.  It works with the body’s energy field to unblock energy centres, promote balance, reduce anxiety and stress, and assist in the healing of physical and mental ailments.  When used in combination with breathwork, reiki can facilitate the unblocking and balancing of energy, allowing for increased release of stored trauma in the physical body and in the mental and emotional energy bodies.  It may also assist in an increased awareness of one’s conditioning, thoughts and behaviour patterns as this energy begins to shift cognitive blocks.  Reiki has many physical and emotional benefits, including improved mood and emotional well-being, reduced stress and anxiety symptoms in the body and mind, improved sleep, greater connection to the self, and a balanced chakra system.  

This work is potent and positively impactful. It is intended for those prepared to delve deeply into the most intimate recesses of their being, particularly into the realms of their emotional and painful bodies. It offers a graceful opportunity to connect with repressed or fragmented aspects of one's self-yearning for recognition.

This journey is all about performing a hard reset on your mind, your body and your spirit but we are also going to rewrite the program at the same time. Bring forward old patterns, trauma, limiting beliefs and behaviours and release them from the body to allow room for the new to be forged.

About your facilitators:

Josh Folghera - @breathworkera

Josh (Breathworkera) is a certified Transformational Breathwork Coach who found his calling in helping people realise the power of their breath. His journey to this practice is rooted in a personal story of resilience and self-discovery, which began in the face of overcoming years of various addictions and self-destructive behaviours whilst navigating complex mental health issues.

Josh's initial encounter with breathwork in 2020 was a turning point that saw him use breathwork as a key healing modality. After two years of personal practice, Josh became drawn to sharing this medicine. He became certified as a Transformational Breathwork Coach in 2023 and has since helped hundreds of people realise the healing power of the breath, accessing and rewiring their subconscious mind and mastering their nervous system.

His approach to breathwork is characterised by a thoughtful blend of an empathetic understanding of people's daily challenges and emotional intuition while drawing from his lived experience. Each session is carefully crafted from the heart and designed to be targeted and powerful, providing a structured yet adaptive pathway for individuals to explore their inner selves.

Gemma Urbini - @thebloomprojectcollective

Gemma is a mental health occupational therapist, clinical family therapist, and reiki master who has helped people on their healing journeys using a combination of talk, somatic, and sensory therapy approaches. Her practice guides people to become their own healers and empowers individuals to be the driving agents of change in their own journeys. Gemma also has a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and promotes creativity and occupational balance as essential for recovery.  

Gemma is committed to continual self-enquiry and self-development. She uses a naturally warm, authentic and intuitive approach to create a safe and nurturing environment for her clients to realise their strengths and empower them through recovery. Her holistic approach to mind-body wellness utilises different evidence-based talk therapies alongside mindfulness, meditation, play therapies and sensory processing. Trauma informed practice underpins all her work and is guided by guiding principles of safety, collaboration, choice, trustworthiness and empowerment.  Client-centred collaboration to help clients reach their desired goals of treatment is at the core of Gemma’s work.

How do you prepare for this experience?

• No experience is required but you need the willingness to explore some of the deepest parts of yourself.

• Empty belly: Please don't eat anything heavy/big 3 hours before the session (a light snack like banana, nuts, etc. is really great for the in-between here)

• Avoid coffee or other stimulating drinks

• Please avoid alcohol and recreational drugs for 24 hours

• Please hydrate throughout the day

• Read and Sign the Liability Release Waiver form that will be emailed to you once you purchase your ticket

For most participants, the initial breathwork experience often leads to profound physical and emotional release and catharsis, occasionally intense. This journey can elicit a wide range of emotions, spanning from grief, pain, and discomfort to ecstasy, joy, and bliss, with countless nuances in between. These emotions represent facets of the self that may remain unaddressed in our waking life; even positive feelings like ecstasy and bliss can sometimes be unconsciously repressed. These emotions can be expressed fully and without inhibition within the safe and nurturing environment we'll create.

It's important to acknowledge that not everyone may be prepared for such a transformative dive, particularly if they are new to inner work and self-awareness. Josh deeply respects and honours each person's unique position on their path of healing and awakening. Therefore, he requests that you conduct a self-assessment and ensure you are truly ready for a profound and powerful journey into the depths of your being. This readiness also encompasses a willingness to confront any discomfort, hurt, grief, pain, or unresolved wounds that may be lingering beneath the surface.

Contraindications

If you are on the contraindication list, you are NOT a candidate for this breathwork journey, but I am happy to discuss other options. Please do not continue to book the session if you have any of the contraindications listed below until you have spoken with your healthcare provider.

• Presence of acute illness or symptoms, i.e. cold or flu

• Pregnancy (at any stage)

• Cardiovascular disease (incl. angina, previous heart attack or stroke)

• Unmedicated High Blood Pressure

• Recent surgery, stitches or injury

• Low Blood Pressure with a history of fainting

• History of Aneurysms

• Epilepsy or history of Seizures

• Osteoporosis

• Actively using recreational drugs

• Taking any medication that alters brain chemistry like anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, ADD, OCD medications, etc.

• Ocular Issues: (detached retina/glaucoma)

• Kidney disease

• Uncontrolled thyroid conditions

• Severe Asthma— for mild to moderate asthma, we can discuss, but you must bring your inhaler to the session

• Uncontrolled Diabetes (any type)

• Severe PTSD or trauma

• Prior diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia or previous psychiatric condition

• Complex PTSD

• Severe psychosomatic disorders

• Hospitalisation for any psychiatric condition or emotional crisis within the last 5 years

• Any other medical, psychiatric or physical conditions that would impair or affect the ability to engage in any activities that involve deep physical and/or emotional release

• Adverse reactions from recent C vaccination OR vaccination within the last 6 months

Please bring the following Items:

• Yoga Mat (We will be able to provide one if you do not have one)

• Bottle of water (electrolytes in water is optimal)

• Comfy Warm Clothing

• Blanket (optional)

• Eye Mask or Scarf (We will have spares if need be)

• A Journal or something to write with.

Things to note:

Arrival: When you arrive, endeavour to arrive between 6:40 pm and 6:55 pm - Doors will close at 7 pm, and we cannot accept any latecomers to ensure the experience is as immersive as possible for everyone. Truly, it breaks our heart to have to turn latecomers away yet the disruption to the whole group. We ask that you find understanding and consideration for the time bound nature of the container and make every effort to arrive on time. Upon arrival, please head up the stairs and into the group space

Driving: The Bigger Picture Clinic is located on Glen Huntly Road in Elsternwick. There is street parking around, but most of it is 1-2P. Around the corner of Horne St, there is a free multi-level car park next to the train station.

Public transport - Elsternwick train station is less than a 200m walk from the clinic

Ticketing T&Cs: We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise in life. As a result, we are happy to process refunds for your ticket up to 24 hours before the event's scheduled start time. However, please be aware that once this timeframe has passed, we have a firm policy of no refunds or transfers to future events.
