Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision Course (Fall 2024)

Event description

This Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy approved 30-hour course in Clinical Supervision will be conversational and co-creative, making space for participants' experience and wisdom. This training is offered by Change Institute, a program of Change Inc.

The class takes place virtually on Zoom over 9 Mondays from September 30th- November 25th (Sept. 30; Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28; Nov. 4, 11, 18, 25) from 1pm-4:30pm Central Time.

Topics will include:

  • Ethics in supervision;
  • Supervision in diverse communities;
  • Power and privilege in supervision;
  • Self-of-the therapist/supervisor;
  • Awareness of relational patterns;
  • Solution-focused problem-solving

Meet Your Presenters: 

Jennifer Garrido Santos, M.A., LMFT, LICSW


Jennifer holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University and a Bachelor of Science in Child Psychology from the University of Minnesota. She is a therapist and clinical supervisor for Change Inc., providing school-based prevention, early intervention, and mental health services in urban schools.  

As a Change Inc. Clinical Director, Jennifer offers and organizes mentorship, supervision, and professional development opportunities for therapists in thirty inner-city schools. She has worked in school-based mental health for the past 17+ years and has been supervising graduate and post-graduate interns for 12+ years.

Jody Nelson, Ed. D., LMFT - MN-BMFT Approved Supervisor

Dr. Jo Nelson is Executive Director of Change Inc., a community-based social service agency providing educational and mental health services primarily in partnership with schools. Her specialty area in this course is focused on developing the supervisory relationship.

Joe Genev-Reid, Ph.D., LMFT


Dr. Genev-Reid is the owner of Relationships LLC specializing in parenting assessments, supervised visitation and general individual, couple and family therapy. He presents on topics of equity and inclusion. His specialty area in this course is focused on social and cultural foundations of therapy.

Lisa Xiong, M.A., LMFT


Lisa is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who is bilingual Hmong and English. She specializes in working with children, families, and female adults who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, challenges adjusting to life changes, multi-systemic relational issues, self-esteem, and/or exploration of intersectional identity.  

She is a Registered Play Therapist and also has training and experience in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). She is an advocate for social justice and equity within the field of mental health and is a MN MFT/LPCC Board Approved Supervisor. She is a systemic and relational healer that takes a strength based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach. She believes healing is self-paced and meets her clients where they are at. She also believes therapy can be fun and that a fun brain is a learning brain.
