In The Hole: Guest DJ Inés (ig: @sonido.ines)

Inés is a Chicago based DJ, record collector, party organizer, and visual artist. She has become a significant player in the city’s underground, throwing the well-loved party Work Ethic. Mentorships from some of the cities most respected disco jocks have helped develop her ear for the weirder corners of dance music; with crates full of deep disco, low-down funk, cosmic gospel and dancefloor jazz, Inés has become known in Chicago and abroad as a talented selector of music at the margins.

Guest Artist Aaron Spencer (ig: @aaronspencerart)

Aaron Spencer is a self-taught artist living in Rogers Park.  He was born into a deeply religious family in Salt Lake City where he frequently found himself in trouble for sketching during church meetings. Much like then, art remains his way of expressing the unspoken.  His work frequently delves into aspects of himself - such as his queer identity and fascination with the darker side of life - that he had to conceal while growing up.

Primarily working with oil paints, Aaron likes changing up his style from piece to piece and working to emulate different painting techniques from different eras.  Some of his work is closer to realism, others quite abstract, and a lot are somewhere in-between.

One of his fascinations is the male form and how it is represented in art. He will often portray a ‘masculine’ figure in a pose or angle that classical artists would have considered to be ‘feminine’. Even today, there are people that are very uncomfortable with this, and often online he finds his works censored in places that allow similar paintings if the figure is a woman. He finds that fascinating and hopes his work makes people question what makes something beautiful.
