What We'll Do
We’ll start at 2.00 pm with a welcome and introduction. We like to visit a range of gardens, each as unique as the gardeners who live and work there.
This month, members of Friends of Peacehaven Botanic Park Inc (FPBP) will welcome us to their Native Plant Nursery.
This will include:
a tour of the nursery and activities.
a demonstration of propagating techniques.
information about the plants available.
information about the aims of the nursery, membership of the Friends of Peacehaven Botanic Park and volunteering opportunities.
plenty of time for Q&A.
plant purchases for all interested members.
The Friends have recently released a Fact Sheet "Peacehaven: A walk in the Park" which will be available for us to use for self-guided tours of the Botanic Gardens after the nursery tour.
We’ll see:
All areas of native plant nursery, propagating hothouse, Stump in Time, FPBP Meeting Shed, Native garden display in front of nursery, Peacehaven Park.
Some propagating techniques, growth stages of plant propagation and nursery volunteer tasks.
The Story Behind the Nursery
The Friends of Peacehaven Botanic Park operate a native plant nursery, open for sales to the public on Thursday and Saturday mornings. It's located in the Peacehaven Park, across the lawn from the car park..
The nursery is the Friends’ principal source of income, allowing us to contribute to special projects in the park.
Stan Kuhls old dairy shed, now demolished, was used by the Friends for their headquarters and the native plant nursery. The new nursery and shed were built during 2019 and in early 2020 the Friends and nursery moved into the much larger premises.
The nursery has an automatic watering system, a hothouse, a growing on area and a sun hardening area.
Afternoon Tea (provided)
A light afternoon tea will be provided (including Gluten Free and Vegan options).
