GRANT WORKSHOP
SEPTEMBER 13, 2024
8:30 - 9:00 am Registration
9:00 - 9:30 am Start of Workshops
Presenter:Â Elinor "Sue" Coates
Class Description
Date and time: Friday, September 13, 2024, 9:30 to 3:00, in Silver City
Instructor: Elinor "Sue" Coates PhD; escoates@gmail.com; 501-617-0598
This is a five-hour introductory overview of a complex subject. It cannot possibly cover
"everything you need to know about grants". You will learn the questions to pursue
afterwards so you can learn on your own the rest of what you need to know for your
individual project.
Learning Objectives
Develop a clear concise statement of project purpose and intended outcome
Identify funding opportunities with suitable eligibility criteria
Use a logic model to build a detailed project plan as basis for funding request
Compile project procedure manual including quality control and performance evaluation
Analyze application instructions and draft documents to incorporate all these elements
Preparation
Participants should search out and bring to class a grant opportunity to practice on and
take notes on and refer to in preparing their actual application. Some places to look are
listed below. If participants prefer to work in teams of two or three, they may share one
document together. They may work with a printout or a digital file, as suitable to make
notes and begin drafting each section. No one can complete an entire grant application in
this five hour class, so making notes on the practice documents will be essential.
Follow-up after class
Continue filling in the application documents and have a rough draft of the entire
proposal, with a list of questions to be clarified, ready for "check-in" Q&A on Tuesday.
Evaluation
Participants will have a brief survey to evaluate this workshop after class.
