Congratulations, you are attending the Yarram dialogue!

We are excited that you are joining us for our fourth Gippsland Forest Dialogue (GFD) in Yarram on 10th and 11th November.

This Dialogue will focus on the theme of ‘Plantations in the landscape’ and what we want from and for our planted forests in the region.

We will look at what this might mean to different stakeholders and communities, and work to find actionable recommendations to achieve balanced values through the exploration of three areas:

the role of plantations in landscape health and their environmental impact
the role of plantations in community health and culture and
the role of plantations in the provision of forest products

A brief exploration of these topics, with links to further information is outlined in The Scoping Paper, which can also be downloaded from our website.

We would also like to share the Welcome Pack that we have put together for you. It includes all important info for the upcoming two days. We encourage you to read through both of these documents to familiarise yourself with the work of the Gippsland Forest Dialogue and the ground rules* in preparation for the event.

FRIDAY 10th November:

Meet at 8:30am at Memorial Park (under the rotunda), 312 Commercial Rd, Yarram for our informal Meet & Greet

Field trip 10am to 4:30pm
Official Finish 4:30pm
Optional Radial Timber Sawmill Tour at 4:45pm
7pm dinner (to be paid individually) at Yarram Country Club, 322 Commercial Rd, Yarram with Guest Speaker Peter McHugh – History of the Strzeleckis

SATURDAY 11th November:

Meet at Regent Theatre Yarram, 210 Commercial Rd, Yarram for our pre-session tea & coffee
Official Start Saturday 8:30am at Regent Theatre
All day parking available at Sports Centre, 2 Smith St – walk through to main street via alley next to bakery
Discussion sessions 9:30am to 4:30pm
Event close: 4:30pm

🌳 The team at Gippsland Forest Dialogue

*The GFD will be implemented in a manner that encourages deep and honest discussion among participants. At the beginning of the dialogue, we will ask each attendee to describe their goals and expectations so the co-chairs and fellow participants can address each other’s concerns during the dialogue. The process is designed to be a safe, trust-based environment for all participants, and to ensure this, we ask you to please respect and adhere to a few rules and expectations over the next few days. These include: Observing the Chatham House Rules, which means that anyone who comes to the dialogue is free to use information from the discussion but is not allowed to reveal who made any particular comment. Only use laptops and phones during breaks. Stand name tents upright to make an intervention.

We aim to cultivate a spirit of participation through: active listening, voicing constructive and solutions-oriented interventions, participating as individuals, helping define and own the outcomes, and not monopolising the speaking time.
