Healthy soil is the foundation of productive, resilient landscapes. This interactive workshop is designed to increase your soil knowledge and capacity, helping you make informed decisions for your property. Whether you’re a small-scale farmer or managing a lifestyle block, this session will equip you with practical skills to better understand and care for your soil.
What You’ll Learn:
🌱 What is soil? Understanding its structure, composition, and role in ecosystems.
🌿 Why soil health matters – The impact of soil quality on plant growth, water retention, and biodiversity.
🔍 Visual Soil Assessment – Simple tests and observations to assess soil health.
📊 Interpreting soil data – Using real Chaffin Creek soil test results to link soil cores with chemical analysis.
🔬 Comparing different systems – Discuss the differences between a grassed area and a syntropic agroforestry system.
💬 Discussion & Application – Explore what these insights mean for your own property.
To make the workshop even more hands-on, you may bring a small soil sample from your property for discussion. Please note that, for biosecurity reasons, samples will be kept within the workshop area, and participants must take their own samples home.
