Gopher Tortoise Habitat Enhancement Project Talk
Event description
Join us for a special lecture by SCCF Wildlife Biologist, Mike Mills, to kick off the Gopher Tortoise Habitat Enhancement Project on Thursday, October 30 from 2:00–3:30 PM at SCCF’s Bailey Homestead pavilion. This engaging program will highlight the fascinating history and ecology of the Gopher Tortoise on Sanibel, from their diet, range, and habitat to their role in our ecosystem.
The talk will also explore the tortoise’s history on Sanibel, the impacts of Hurricane Ian, and simple steps you can take to make your yard more “tortoise friendly.” Attendees will learn about the upcoming Habitat Enhancement Project and how to get involved as a volunteer.
This event is designed to inspire community participation and build support for the protection of this keystone species. The signup fee of $10 will go directly toward the habitat enhancement project.
