Planting Habitat for the Helmeted Honeyeater & Leadbeater Possum

Visit Yellingbo Nature Conservation Area and have fun with like-minded people as you plant habitat for Victoria’s critically endangered faunal emblems— the Helmeted Honeyeater and the Lowland Leadbeater’s Possum. Yellingbo is a special place and it is a privilege to be invited to enjoy time in the Reserve.

Learn about the state faunal emblems, the special plants and animals, particularly birds, that live together to create this unique environment.

There will be art and craft activities for children and the opportunity to plant trees and habitat in the Reserve. At the end of the event, you will have contributed to the survival of the Helmeted Honeyeater and the Lowland Leadbeater Possum.

This event is being brought to you by the Wildlife Carers for Protection of Habitat and Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater. Please note children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Getting there: Yellingbo Nature Conservation Area is a locked reserve located approximately 50 km from Melbourne. It is part of the Liwik Barring Landscape and is located in the Woori Yallock Creek sub catchment of the Yarra River. Driving is the best option.

What to bring: Please wear closed-toe shoes, dress for the weather, be sun-smart and bring your own gardening gloves. Bring a filled water bottle and your own lunch/snacks as there are no local lunch options.

Accessibility: This is a nature reserve, so terrain is uneven, with possible dips or trip hazards on the tracks. This could provide accessibility issues for people with mobility limitations.
