Harvey Russell “Pure as the Flame” Album launch – Harvey Russell & The Widowmakers + Sam Newton
Event description
Harvey Russell’s debut solo album Liquid Damage burst onto the scene in late 2019, an album of classic country songs for the modern world, recalling everyone from George Jones to Jeff Tweedy. After touring the album and writing and recording a bunch of new tracks over the past few years, Harvey returns to the PBC to launch his second solo album ‘Pure as the Flame’.
Harvey’s band, The Widowmakers, have been along for the ride on this new album adding their mercurial touches to the four singles released to date. ‘Honey Come Back to Me’ is a hip-shaking honky tonk classic (with a touch of Wilco)! ‘Last Dance’ is a track from the heartland, reminiscent of John Mellencamp circa The Lonesome Jubilee, while ‘Look Me in the Eye’ has a lush warm and classic sound balanced between familiar country and edgier alt-country sounds.
Title track ‘Pure as the Flame’ premiered on 2SER’s the Outpost in December. This song finds the Sydney alt-country songwriter exploring a more atmospheric, swaying and intimate sound, enhanced by lilting violin and the evocative strains of Aaron Langman’s pedal steel. The band can’t wait to air these new songs to a hometown audience!
Join Harvey and the Widowmakers for a rollicking afternoon of honky tonk and country rock. For fans of Steve Earle, Turnpike Troubadours and American Aquarium.
The very talented Sydney troubadour Sam Newton opens the show!
