Every Day - Exhibition Opening | Head On Photo Festival Open Program
Description
Head On Photo Festival Open Program 2026 presents:
Every Day
An exhibition featuring photographs by Julien Scheffer and Georgia Lilley
Every Day features two series of photographs exploring beauty found in the commonplace. Differing in style and perspective, the series share common ground in their response to ordinary scenes often overlooked. Both series were selected for inclusion in the 2026 Head On Photography Festival Open Program.
Julien’s series, Architecture, represents everyday architectural urban features that serve a practical purpose but are typically ignored, such as stairs, railings, walls, fences, pipes and concrete kerbs. The work focuses on the formal beauty and character of utilitarian city artefacts and aims to reveal the unexpected beauty that can be found in ordinary objects on the street. The series, which uses the interplay of light and shadow to reveal surprising urban forms, is playful at heart and meant as a poetic response to urban ordinariness.
Georgia’s series, But Mostly All We Love, is shot on 35mm film and documents daily life in an evolving family. The series spans roughly 12 months across 2024 and 2025, the artist’s first year postpartum following the unassisted birth of unexpected twins. Captured entirely within the tiny yellow kitchen/dining room of the family’s Launceston cottage, the work evokes the textural chaos, daily rituals and anticipatory nostalgia of family life. Driven by character and narrative, the series portrays a time of hope, love and ephemerality against a background of intense postpartum depression.
