Health Tours - Refugee Camp in My Neighbourhood

Price $65 – $1200 AUD + BF Buy Tickets

Event description

The Refugee Camp in My Neighbourhood Project is a simulated refugee journey delivered in the Whitlam Institute within Western Sydney University from 29 July - 15 August 2024. It aims to raise awareness about human rights and celebrate the contributions refugees make in our local community.

Take a health specific tour through a simulated refugee camp experience. You’ll experience the journey of a refugee and gain a better understanding of the challenges they face as they arrive in Australia. Tours are delivered by guides from a range of refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, and NSW Refugee Health staff.

This interactive tour will help you:

  • Understand how the refugee experience can impact on wellbeing.
  • Develop your understanding of risk factors for this group.
  • Improve your ability to engage effectively with people from refugee backgrounds.
  • Gain 2 CPD hours.

Tours take up to 2.5 hours. Please arrive at least 15 - 25 minutes before start time and allow for travel and registration processes.

Tours will go ahead in all weather conditions. Please bring warm clothes and wet weather gear in the event of rain as some parts of the tour are outdoors.

    COVID19 Safety

RCIMN will be delivered in line with the NSW Government’s advice on COVID19 safety and the COVID19 Safety Plan for this project.

Tour participants are not to attend the tour if they are unwell, have been in close contact with a positive COVID19 case, have been tested for COVID19 and are awaiting their results and/or been instructed to self-isolate.
