Healthy Waterways at Forest Creek Chewton- A Network Meeting with a Difference
Event description
UPDATE 21 October 2024: This event is sold out and registration is closed for schools. VOLUNTEERS - please register to provide your contact details.
Join Chewton Primary School staff and students in a special networking event to raise awareness of the importance of healthy waterways.
Chewton PS has been working on the River Detectives program for approximately 18 months and have loved the depth and breadth of the learning displayed by students. The students have become experts at “reading the water bugs” and understanding some of the science of water quality. Grade 6 students have initiated the 'Dog Poo Protest' in response to their dismay and disgust at the quantities of dog poo close to the creek and learning about the impact of this on water quality and the natural environment more broadly. They would love to share their learning with the broader community, and work with other local schools to share their water projects.
Activities for the day include:
Welcome to Country
Water quality testing
Water bug analysis
Native bird 'treasure hunt'
Dog Poop Protest display on findings and action
Importance of vegetation and protecting the riparian zone of the creek
Nalderun Caring for Water
Storm Water drain awareness
Nature Journaling
Activities are provided in connection with ResourceSmart Schools, River Detectives, Water Watch and the EPA, Coliban Water, Post Office Hill Action Group and valued members of the community.
This event is proposed for students and their teachers from grades 3/4, up to grade 6.
Exact times and locations will be shared upon registration.
