Event description

First Nations and Sustainability in the Arts curriculum with Art Education Victoria

Hosted by Sustainability Victoria’s ResourceSmart Schools program, Sustainability in Schools Month is a free online professional learning series taking place every Thursday in November 2024.

VisualArts360 is a professional development program by Art Education Victoria (AEV) that supports primary school educators in integrating visual arts and Cross-Curricular Priorities (CCP) into their classroom.

Featuring renowned First Nations artist Maree Clarke, the first package of VisualArts360 supports educators in exploring the connections between visual art, First Nations perspectives, and sustainability.

From participating in recycling drives to learning about eel traps and First Nations perspectives on land management, VisualArts360 provide students with valuable insights into sustainable practices that they can apply both in the art classroom and in their everyday lives.

Join Amelia Bird, AEV Programs Coordinator, and Lena Cirillo, AEV Executive Officer, as they explore VisualArts360 and provide attendees with the opportunity to:

  • Discover practical ideas for creating interdisciplinary projects that connect visual arts with cross-curricular subjects, including STEM topics, fostering collaboration between classroom teachers, visual arts specialists, and STEM educators.
  • Build confidence in respectfully introducing and exploring First Nations art and culture within primary classrooms.
  • Learn how to embed sustainable practices in the classroom, using visual arts projects to promote environmental awareness and the responsible use of resources.
