“It's Not All Greek to Me: How Bilingual Brains Can Change the World”

Join us for a day of thought-provoking discussion and educational insight at the 2025 National Educators Forum hosted by the Hellenic Studies Foundation. This year’s theme, “It's Not All Greek to Me: How Bilingual Brains Can Change the World,” explores the cognitive, cultural, and societal value of bilingual education—particularly through the lens of Greek language learning.

The day begins with breakfast and a welcome by Jo Clyne from the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne, followed by opening remarks from the Foundation’s Chairman, the Hon. Greg Crafter, who will reflect on our ongoing commitment to accessible Greek language teaching in South Australia. He will introduce the Minister for Education, Blair Boyer, whose support for language learning has been instrumental.

The Consul General for Greece in Adelaide will reflect on the cultural importance of the Greek language in Australia and how this ties in with the upcoming UNESCO vote to make February 9, International Greek Language Day. Professor Joe Lo Bianco will discuss language policy and planning, and Professor Ghil'ad Zuckermann will explore the power of language revival and identity before facilitating a conversation with Canadian research professor and psychologist, Dr Ellen Bialystock, regarding the cognitive benefits of language learning.
