HERBAL TEA AT HOME

with JUDY KEATS

Saturday 11 February - 9:30am to 12:00pm (2.5 hours)

Join us at Kelmarna Gardens to explore the possibilities for growing your own herbal tea, and learn everything you need to know to get started at home.

In this workshop with Judy Keats you will forage for herbs, learn about cultivation and drying methods, explore medicinal benefits, practise blending flavours, and brew your own herbal tea!

What to expect:

The session will start with a foraging exercise to observe growing habits, preferred conditions, and then gather a variety of essential tea-brewing herbs. 

You will then try your hands at combining the herbs to craft and taste test your own blends with Judy's guidance through drying methods and considering some of the potential health benefits of different herbs. Experiment and enjoy a your unique cuppa over morning tea with the group.

At the end of the session, you will get to choose a seedling to take home with you to get started growing the ingredients on your own for your favourite blend!

So look forward to an herbal adventure with Judy that will get you ready to create and share your own delicious herbal tea at home!

Tickets include: admission and guided instruction, including access to foraged herbs and brewing resources (i.e. hot water, kettle, mugs, etc.); modest morning tea nibbles; and a herb seedlings to take home

What to bring:

Essential:

  • a refillable water bottle (to stay hydrated)
  • weather appropriate gear (to keep comfortable)

Recommended:

  • a notebook and pen (to take notes)
  • a tote/shopping bag or tray (to carry your seedling home)
  • a face covering or mask (for indoors or close quarters)

Judy Keats is a permaculturist, organic systems educator, and community garden mentor and advisor, with more than 8 years experience establishing, coordinating, and teaching in community gardens across Auckland. Judy is passionate about wellbeing, caring for the environment, and believes that by observing our plants and our changing climate we can learn to create sustainable outcomes.

Judy is also an avid herbal tea maker, who is known for her blends, knowledge of flavours, and uses of often unsuspecting herbs from all around the garden. She is keen to guide you to make the most out of the garden, for your health and pleasure in every cuppa!
