Join Anne Martin as she shares her research of her great uncle, Hiram Mildred.
At just 13 years of age, Hiram Mildred set sail for the new colony of South Australia aboard the Rapid, a surveying brig, accompanied by his uncle George Mildred in 1836. Hiram’s father the Hon. Henry Richard Mildred of 'Clairville' in Campbelltown, arrived in South Australia the following year. As an adult, Hiram went on to make his mark in South Australia as a surveyor. Did you know Mildred Road in Port Augusta is named in his honour?
