Event description

We invite high schools to join our SunSafe Student Ambassador Program - a unique peer-to-peer learning program that teaches teens about the importance of sun safety and the dangers of tanning while developing their public speaking skills.

After completing the comprehensive one-day workshop, students are empowered to deliver a sun safety presentation to their school peers and champion sun safety initiatives with their school community.

The SunSafe Student Ambassador Program:

  • includes training from a clinician and a presentation skills expert

  • requires minimal input from teachers (we know you’re busy!)

  • fulfils PDHPE curriculum outcomes

  • empowers students to deliver an engaging presentation to their peers

  • helps students to support sun safety practices in their school

  • supports student wellbeing by educating on how to prevent deadly melanoma and the dangers of tanning culture

Workshop agenda*:

  • My story - patient speaker

  • What is melanoma and why should I care?

  • SunSafe Ambassadors: Call to action

  • Influencing with confidence

  • Perfecting your pitch

  • Melanoma under the microscope

  • Practice makes perfect

  • Action plan

Morning tea and lunch will be provided and there is no charge for this event.

Teachers are invited to bring 3-5 students from Years 8-10 to represent their school in a collaborative learning environment with other local students. We encourage teachers to select students who will be influential over their peers to maximise the opportunity to change sun-safe culture in your school.

To participate in this program:
• Schools must register to participate.
• A teacher (or school nurse) must accompany the students to the workshop and be willing to co-ordinate the follow up required after the workshop. If your school requires financial assistance to cover relief teacher costs for attending our workshop, please contact us
• Students must be willing to present as a group to their school community before the end of the school year.

RSVP: Registration closes 25 August. However, tickets are strictly limited and may sell out in advance of this date.

Please be sure to book tickets for both a teacher and up to 5 students (maximum of 6 tickets in total). *Note: Agenda is subject to change.

The SunSafe Student Ambassador Program is an initiative of Melanoma Institute Australia.
