Description

Why learn about places from a textbook when you can investigate them firsthand?

Join us for a hands-on day of outdoor learning as we explore some of Sydney's most iconic harbourside suburbs. We'll walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, visit hidden local gems, collect real-world data and discover what makes a place a great place to live.

Designed for Stage 3 and Stage 4 homeschool students, this excursion brings Geography to life through practical investigations, fieldwork and observation in one of the world's most spectacular urban environments.

What we'll do

  • Walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge

  • Explore Millers Point, Milsons Point and Lavender Bay

  • Use fieldwork equipment to measure noise, light and temperature

  • Conduct neighbourhood surveys and investigate community facilities

  • Complete field sketches and map-based activities

  • Collect and analyse real-world data

  • Visit a hidden harbourside garden created from a former railway embankment

  • Meet and learn alongside other homeschool students

Why families love fieldwork

Many students learn best when they can move, explore and experience concepts in the real world.

This excursion provides an engaging alternative to desk-based learning and gives students the opportunity to investigate Geography firsthand while spending the day outdoors.

All fieldwork equipment is supplied, and every student will have the opportunity to participate in practical activities throughout the day. Worksheets are also provided and may be completed during the excursion or used afterwards as part of your homeschool excursion package.

Geography fieldwork

Fieldwork is an important part of the NSW Geography syllabus. Students can use the investigations and data collected during the day to contribute towards Geography fieldwork requirements and related learning activities.
