Hey creatives, join us for this month’s FREE workshop on writing a COMPELLING artist bio!

This session will cover how to write about your practice for a variety of real-world applications. Led by Outloud’s team, it will provide artists with practical tips and strategies about writing about themselves and their practice for a variety of real-world applications such as:

exhibition proposals
grant applications
artist statements

At the end of the workshop, you’ll come away with a greater understanding about how to write about your work for different audiences.

The Independent Artist Series is a series of workshops run on the last Wednesday of every month about topics to help you have a sustainable career in the arts.

Workshops will be held at Outloud headquarters, the Bankstown Arts Centre, from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm.
FREE dinner will be provided (Vegan and halal options)

Trains

Bankstown Arts Centre is within five minutes walking distance from the Bankstown Bus Interchange. For train and bus schedules, visit transportnsw.info.

Parking

Parking around the Arts Centre is limited. We suggest taking public transport whenever possible. Limited free four hours (4P) parking is available at the community carpark located along Olympic Parade. Also, Marion Street Carpark, Dale Lane Carpark, Brandon Avenue Carpark and Greenfield Parade Carpark are within walking distance to the Arts Centre.

Accessibility

Visitors with restricted mobility can use all public spaces at Bankstown Arts Centre. A lift is located in the foyer, to take visitors to any floor in the building. Entry to Arts Centre is via the front of the building at Dale Parade. There is a minibus drop-off zone at Dale Parade, located 25 metres from the front entrance. Accessible parking is also available at the Olympic Parade car park.

There I an accessible bathroom in the foyer, with a handrail and assistance button. Each of the bathrooms throughout the other parts of the centre have handrails. None have steps leading to them. Each can be accessed either directly or via the lift in the foyer.

Outloud is an intersectional, CALD-focused social impact arts organisation that creates genuine, meaningful, inspiring opportunities for young people in Western Sydney.

Our award-winning projects address nationally relevant issues that are affecting young people in Western Sydney. We use community-embedded contemporary arts to drive positive change for young people with best practice, evidence-based programs that are fun and inspiring. We specialise in early-intervention harm-reduction that celebrates strengths and amplifies socially-marginalised young people’s thoughts and ideas. We put a spotlight on global issues that are affecting our local young people and amplify their thoughts and ideas. We elevate skills and confidence and aim to build self-efficacy and social cohesion.

We work with young people who are either emerging leaders, at risk, or looking for a way to make a difference. We connect our participants to mentors, their peers, role models and industry contacts. We work with them to create art that challenges, inspires, questions and makes an impact on the participants, their audiences, and hopefully – their wider community. We amplify local voices to create profound and lasting change in South-West Sydney.

Formally known as BYDS – Bankstown Youth Development Service, we’ve been working in Western Sydney since 1991, and have worked with thousands of young people. We can name generations of artists who have built their career after engaging with us.
