Join our community for a night of good food, good stories, and good humans.

Humans For Good potlucks are here to provide a casual, inclusive and cosy space to explore different global issues and how we can all be working together to do a little more good for people and the planet.

At each event, we like to host conversations around a couple of big topics. In May, we'll be discussing not for profits vs social enterprises (which is better for social impact and getting paid?), and how we can use artificial intelligence for good.

Anyone with an interest in social impact is very welcome to join us, and we're also stoked to now have a virtual option for those outside of Sydney who would like to listen into the talks remotely (grab a virtual ticket below).

So, why potlucks?

Humans For Good potlucks are an opportunity to connect with likeminded humans in the way we have for thousands of years: over a home-cooked meal.

Rather than a networking event, each potluck is an experience that is co-created by the community, for the community. Whether you bring a meal, share your story, or help us keep things running smoothly, everyone contributes something toward making the night memorable and impactful.

The night begins with chats over dinner, and ends with a time for storytelling by guest speakers from Humans For Good.

📍 The potlucks take place at a NY style loft at 19-23 Wellington Street, Chippendale, Sydney. There is some parking on the street, and it is a 10 minute walk from both Central and Redfern train stations. 🥘 Please bring a dish to share if you can, or a drink or snack! (and make sure to label for any allergies and intolerances plz 🙏). As this is a community event where people bring dishes of different kinds, please ensure that you are assessing what you can and cannot eat 🙂
🎟️ Tickets are a $10 donation to the community, to help us cover renting the space and some drinks at the event!
💰 This time, our potluck will be supporting La Cocina de Kima – a soup kitchen in Medellin, Colombia, which serves meals to vulnerable children in the Llanadas neighbourhood. This a completely grassroots, community-led initiative and 100% of your donation will go directly toward the soup kitchen. It is roughly 50c per meal, so if you donate $5 for example, that'll feed 10 children and enable Kima to grow her vision for her neighbourhood – including serving vulnerable children and adults not only twice a week, but every day.

Who will be sharing their story?

After dinner, we'll be having fireside chats between a few good humans and social impact leaders in our community:

Weh Yeoh

Weh is going to share his views around living a life of purpose (and getting paid to do so), doing good and challenging the status quo, and whether not for profits or social enterprises are better for having impact. He has worked internationally and in Australia, his home country, in the social impact space for nearly two decades. He is the founder of OIC Cambodia, an initiative that aims to establish speech therapy as a profession in Cambodia. Weh has volunteered with people with disabilities in Vietnam, interned in India, studied Mandarin in Beijing, and milked yaks in Mongolia. He started OIC in 2013, and handed over leadership to a local Cambodian team in 2017. He has since co-founded Umbo, a social enterprise bridging the gap for rural Australians to access allied health services. In 2023 he published his first book, Redundant Charities: Escaping the Cycle of Dependence, it discusses the structural issues that face charities, and promotes a new model of charity - one that makes itself redundant.

Lee Schofield

Lee is going to talk to the ethics behind designing AI tools, and how we can be leveraging it to do more good in the world. She is passionate about helping businesses innovate and transform through strategy, design thinking, and the integration of emerging technologies like AI. Over the past 15 years, she has cultivated a diverse career driven by curiosity, creativity, and continuous learning.
