Illawarra Folk Club presents The Times they are a Changin
Event description
The Times They Are a-Changin’ – the songs and their stories
The Illawarra Folk Club presents in concert Maurie Mulheron and A Small Circle of Friends with a reimagining of Bob Dylan’s early and arguably most important albums, his third studio album, The Times They Are a-Changin’. Recorded during a tumultuous time just weeks before the assassination of JFK, the album was the first and last Dylan album that was primarily concerned with social issues of the day. Protest songs, songs about war, racism, poverty, inequality, corruption and other cheery topics plus, of course, a few love songs. Few other albums of the time reflect the close alliance between the folk music revival and the civil rights movement of the day. Pete Seeger’s dream of a singing movement was at last coming true, but things soon changed…
“a guided musical tour of one of Bob Dylan’s early and arguably most important albums…in my top five acts of the festival”
“Mulheron’s deep knowledge of the subject and the band’s combined musical talents, made for a thoroughly entertaining and informative performance.”
