Improv Foundations
Event description
Register now for this 8 week course in the Foundations of Theatrical/Comedic improvisation - the first step if you wish to perform with Improv Taranaki, or just to learn more about the philosophy and engage in play & connection with like-minded people.
Improv is different to stand-up comedy; you're not alone and you don't tell jokes. It's about working as a team with other players to create spontaneous group stories and scenes. It is a positive form of comedy and it helps you to develop and flex your creativity, collaboration and communication while enhancing your presence of mind. The skills that are gained are highly transferable for success in personal, social and career pursuits. Find out more about improv here.
You don't need acting or comedy experience to take part. The classes are low-pressure, held in a safe environment and are designed to allow participants to self-explore.
The course is facilitated by Phill Spear, founder of Improv Taranaki. Testimonials from previous students:
"Phill's class is seriously a lot of fun. I highly recommend his class to anyone who enjoys a good laugh and being silly; it's like playtime for adults!"
"I loved the way that the skills are transferable to real life, and the training of mental agility and creativity. Training my brain to think in different ways in a positive manner has a knock on effect in life".
“Phill has a real dedication to his craft. The course struck a balance between thoughtful tuition and well designed exercises. He really know his stuff.”
"I like how inclusive Phill is. He knows how to make sure everyone takes something away from each class. Fun is at the centre of the course and he reminds us of the value of joy."
"Never a dull moment, and between the laughs you're also learning to rethink your approach to life!"
