The Inner Workings of the Machine: A Closer Look at Curated Exhibitions
How do curated exhibitions come together? Join Eleen Deprez, curator and director of The Little Machine, for an inside look at how exhibitions are developed and realised. The session will cover the process from initial planning and conceptual development, through artist selection and studio visits, to practical hands-on installation methods. Participants will also be guided through the current exhibition and offered a brief overview of past projects.

About the presenter:
Dr Eleen M Deprez is a curator and philosopher of art. She is the director of The Little Machine (TLM), a space for experimental and contemporary art. She holds a PhD in History and Philosophy of Art with a focus on curatorial practice from the University of Kent, alongside an MA in Philosophy from the Free University of Brussels (Belgium) and an MFA from the Royal Academy in Ghent (Belgium). At TLM she has curated several exhibitions, including “Love Object Object Love”, which explored the emotional resonance of objects and artworks as manifestations of love and its complex emotional spectrum, ranging from pleasure to trauma. “Phenomenal” brought together six artists whose work delved into perceptual experiences that intersect with spiritual and metaphysical themes, challenging materialistic perspectives of the world. Another significant project, “Instructions for...”, was an instruction-based curatorial experiment where eight artists provided creative instructions for eight pieces of plasterboard, pushing the boundaries of instruction-based art and its curatorial potential. In addition to her curatorial work, Eleen collaborates closely with emerging and established artists, writing catalogue essays and offering mentorship.
