About the guest speaker:

Professor Silvana Marasco (1986) is the Director of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Alfred Hospital. Being one of only 11 female cardiothoracic surgeons in Australia, she is particularly passionate about preventing and treating heart disease – especially as it is not commonly known that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women. Silvana is committed to medical research as a way of giving back and has published over 160 peer reviewed journal articles and 14 book chapters. Her research interests have focussed on chest trauma, transplantation outcomes and innovations in surgical techniques, and over the course of her career, Silvana has been awarded over $15 million in competitive research grants.
