About the Class:

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the process of dying fabric using natural indigo plant dye and Japanese Shibori tie-dye techniques. In the first section, you will learn about the history and qualities of natural indigo dyeing. A brief snack and beverage break is included, so please bring what you need for this time. During the second section of the day, you will get your hands blue'd in the indigo vat folding and dying your own Shibori design.

Class size is limited to 10 so that each participant will have the time to participate in the dyeing process. All materials will be provided and no previous experience is necessary, as a pre-made Indigo vat will be provided for workshop use. All participants will leave the workshop with two of their own designed and hand-dyed bandanas, a custom printout filled with resources to make your own Indigo vat at home and Japanese Indigo seeds to help spread the blue far and wide.

About the artists:

They apply Shibori folding & binding techniques to achieve unique patterns. Courtney and Reverdy recently moved back to North Carolina after living in Oregon for the last 12 years and have been selling Indigo dyed textiles and herbal goods at markets around the area and online while also offering Intro to Natural Indigo Dyeing and Shibori workshops.
