Event description

Imagine transforming junk mail and scrap paper into beautiful, handmade sheets, perfect for crafting cards, books, and invitations!

In this intro class, we'll focus on Western-style papermaking. We'll cover the basics of selecting the best paper for recycling, discuss the essential tools required for making paper (including inexpensive and readily available options), and then walk you through the process. We'll also consider other types of paper pulp and how they impact your results. While we won't go into more advanced topics, we will have plenty of time to play and experiment with color and add-ins. In addition to lovely handmade paper, participants will gain a solid understanding of how to continue making paper at home. **The paper will not be ready to take home that day. Participants can arrange a pickup time or have their paper shipped for an additional fee.

Making handmade paper is typically a relaxing process, but be prepared to have your hands in water for most of the session. Dress appropriately for getting wet and pulpy. Also, while the paper sizes we'll be working with don't require a lot of physical exertion, please expect to spend some time on your feet.

Participants can bring a few sheets of non-glossy paper to possibly include in our paper vats.

This class is open to participants ages 16+. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE A WAIVER ON FILE (download). We will have hard copies available on site. Please also refer to our parking and accessibility information.
