This workshop offers a broad exploration of global poetic forms and traditions. We’ll examine how poetic structures have evolved and the diverse themes they express. Participants will engage in guided writing exercises and supportive critique, fostering creative growth and revision.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to identify and discuss a variety of styles and conventional themes that characterize poetic works from various time periods and cultures, recognize multiple structural elements used in poetry and demonstrate understanding of the relationship between form and meaning, and compose several poems using various formats that will be shared with classmates/instructor.

Note: All workshop participants will have the opportunity to publish at least one work with Write Pittsburgh during the year in which the workshop was taken. Workshop participants will also be invited to share their work publicly either in-person or online at Write Pittsburgh events hosted throughout the year.Â
