Every scrap of paper has a story. Every ticket stub, vintage postcard, and leftover paint swatch is a memory waiting for a home. We invite you to embark on An Adventure to Junk Journaling—a four hour workshop designed to help you discover your artistic side and create a book like no other. Whether you are a novice picking up a glue stick for the first time or an experienced artist looking for a new medium, this workshop is for you. We will explore the techniques that turn "junk" into a treasured book. You will learn how to:

• Construct a Journal: Build a unique vessel from found materials and interesting papers.

• Master Mixed Media: Apply techniques that layer color, texture, and secret pockets.

• Curate Memories: Design layouts that hold your past memories while leaving room for new art possibilities.

What to Bring: We provide the core supplies, but we encourage you to bring your "bits and bobs"—old letters, photos, or paper scraps that speak to you.

About the facilitator:

Kathy Shaw Burnside is an artist of many talents. At this time in her journey she's developed from a bookbinding artist into a junk journaling artist. This art form has its roots in bookmaking, and includes recycling and upcycling. The art form encompasses many of the paper arts genres--watercolor, origami, Zentangle, just to name a few. Kathy presently teach classes at Alamance Arts in Alamance County. Kathy is passionate about her art, and this really comes through in her classes.
